Our Background

Dr. Muhammet Derda Özer, F.I.C.O, is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University. Born in Bolu, Turkey, in 1986, he earned his medical degree from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine (2004–2010) and completed his ophthalmology residency at the same institution (2011–2016). He pursued further training with an observership in ocular oncology at Wills Eye Institute (2012) and an ICO-STAAR Surgical Fellowship in Vitreo-Retina at the University of Kansas (2020). He holds multiple international certifications, including passing several International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) exams (2017–2020), USMLE Step 1 & 2 (2021), and obtaining ECFMG certification (2024).

 

Dr. Özer previously served as an Assistant and Associate Professor at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University before joining Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University in 2022. He has an extensive research portfolio, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications covering uveitis, keratoconus, glaucoma, and intraocular lenses, and has been involved in multiple clinical trials as a sub-investigator, particularly in Behçet’s uveitis and retinal disease treatments. Actively contributing to the field, he has presented at numerous national and international conferences, including the Turkish National Ophthalmology Congress and Euretina Congress.

 

He is a member of the Turkish Ophthalmological Association and serves on its Uveitis-Behçet and Young Ophthalmologist Councils. Fluent in Turkish and English, Dr. Özer is a dedicated clinician, researcher, and educator in ophthalmology.
